In Hungary, only two competitive tennis players have type 1 diabetes. For Rafael Kis-Balázs, this health issue was previously a serious hindrance in his career. He often became fatigued during matches, and his heart rate was not always stable. There were times when he even had to stop a match because of it. Doctors had previously recommended a pacemaker for him, and at one point they even wanted to ban him from competitive sport.
However, Rafael no longer faces these problems. In addition to insulin therapy, he now uses a revolutionary new method. He feels that his performance has greatly improved and that he is symptom-free. He has climbed higher in the Hungarian rankings, and his ATP points are steadily increasing. During examinations at the sports clinic, the doctors were surprised, as Rafael shows no signs of the complications typically associated with diabetes.
